SOFT UK Family Day 2014

This year’s SOFT weekend was held in sunny Blackpool – yes it actually was quite sunny! We all gathered at a seafront hotel, in one of their main function rooms on the Saturday morning. Louise Capper had set out plenty of craft, art and drawing materials to keep all the children well occupied, whilst the adults spent some relaxing time chatting. The objective  for this weekend was for it to have a real family feel, where we could just catch up and spend time together.

Fliss Reading had set up a beautiful remembrance area in part of the room, with candles, photographs, pictures and flowers.

After enjoying a buffet lunch it was off to the circus!! We all trooped off to catch a tram (there is no other way to travel in Blackpool!) to make the trip down to the Tower, and to have  our picture taken before going into the Tower itself to see the spectacular circus. Whilst the children obviously enjoyed the fun, I think Erica Brown enjoyed her first ever visit to a circus, even more!

Then it was back to the hotel and a trip across the road to the beach to release some balloons in remembrance of all our SOFT children.

In the evening we all gathered together to have a lovely dinner before some very tired children (and adults) retired to bed.

Thanks to John Capper who did such a sterling job in arranging everything for us. Although we were a smaller group this year, there was a great deal of fun and laughter and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
