Kerrie’s Fundraising Story

Recently Kerrie got in contact with us to share her fundraising story on behalf of her sister, Tara Jane. Below you’ll find her story written in her own words.

Thanks to Kerrie and everyone involved with this fundraiser!

Kerrie’s Fundraising Story

A little story of what we got up to:

Back in 2021 I fundraised for your charity with a charity haircut in memory of my sister. This time round I’ve been working on my Queen’s Guide Award where I’ve had to do a Community Action Challenge. For this I chose Edward’s Syndrome (Trisomy 18) as this is what my sister (Tara Jane) had, sadly she was born asleep in April 1991. Within my Community Action Challenge I had to do research, a practical and then sharing in Guiding; for my practical I decided to do a fundraiser and raise money for your charity. My fundraiser was to complete 5 miles everyday throughout April, the 5 miles was completed with a combination of Walking, Running, Swimming and Cycling.

This was a wonderful challenge and at times hard as April surprised us with a variety of weather from sunshine, wind, rain and storms. One day I had to go out in my wellies and walk through a park that was flooded in areas. Even though the weather was full of surprises it was such a rewarding challenge too as I was able to raise £185 for Soft UK.

My journey was shared with my Rainbow group who then worked on the jar challenge where they had to fill their jars with as many coins as they could with parents wanting to donate extra money for the cause, together the Rainbows raised just over £180. The Brownies completed the Matchbox Challenge where they get sponsored for how many items they can fit into a matchbox raising just over £176.

Altogether myself, the Rainbows and Brownies raised £542 in total for Soft UK.
